For our third day in Puerto Rico we knew we wanted to visit Icacos Island for a catamaran tour. In all the times we have been to Puerto Rico this was our first time visiting Icacos Island. My friend Megan booked an amazing catamaran trip with the best catamaran tour in Puerto Rico hosted by SS Tobias Snorkel and Beach Tours. The company offers several different boat tours including a power boat to Culebra, but for this trip we chose the Traveler Catamaran to Icacos Island. The entire day was a total blast and the boat crew was amazing! During the entire trip they were very attentive to the guests and very on point with safety.

The catamaran was also a lot bigger than I thought and fit about 30 people! One thing to keep in mind though, is that we went in January. If you are a person who loves warm water I suggest visiting during the summer. January is still winter in the caribbean just like in the United States. During the day in Puerto Rico is still in the mid-80’s however the actual water is not very warm. The catamaran will set their anchor about 30 feet from shore so if you plan on walking along the beach, just know you are going to have to jump into the water which may be quite cold! It’s still worth it though.
getting to icacos island
This hidden gem is in the northeast region of Puerto Rico & departs from the town of Fajardo. Fajardo is about a 45 minute drive from San Juan. We had a rental car but if you don’t they will arrange to pick you up in San Juan for around $20. Once you get to Fajardo, check-in is between 8:30 and 9:00 am. After everyone is checked in the catamaran crew goes over all of the rules for the tour which takes about 15 minutes or so. Then around 9:30 the Catamaran will depart for Icacos Island. It takes about 30-45 minutes to get there from the Marina and the entire trip lasts 6 hours so plan on spending the entire day there.

WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE PRICE?
The price for this day trip is $65 for kids ages 5 to 12 and $75 for ages 13 and up. Kids under 5 are not allowed on this trip. I actually think its better for bigger kids anyway because there are adults on the boat drinking and they can get crazy. My kids are 10 and 12 but I think they are old enough that they would have a great time. There is even a big water slide on the boat that both kids an adults love!
Mixed Drinks are unlimited and included in the price and they begin serving alcohol around 11 or 12. Beer is also available but you have to pay cash and at lunchtime there is yummy buffet! The buffet included rolls for sandwiches, all types of lunch meats, a few side salads, chicken salad and tuna salad. I had chicken salad and it was delicious!
WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU
Since everything is included you really just need to bring towels and maybe a change of clothes. The sun is also blazing hot in Puerto Rico so DO NOT forget a good sunscreen with lots of SPF! Even with SPF 70 I got fried in the caribbean sun! If you bring camera gear you may want to bring a waterproof case since you do need to swim to get to the shore. We didn’t think to bring waterproof gear but luckily the crew also had waterproof bags on board. They even swam our cameras to shore for us!
After lunch the catamaran departs from the beach and will take you a bit further out to a reef area where you can snorkel. Since there is a reef, the area is very safe and if you are not an experienced snorkeler the crew will stay with you the entire time to make sure you are comfortable swimming. Since the water was so cold we decided to stay on the boat and have a few more drinks and enjoy the music!

About my outfit
My bikini is from two different stores. The bottom is a classic piece from American Eagle/Aerie that I purchased last year. The high cut on the leg makes them very flattering too. I don’t like the matching top though because I think the fit is awkward so I ordered this white ribbed top from Victoria’s Secret instead. I also wore a really cite pair of shorts from Levi’s but I didnt get a good pic wearing them. They are the Levi’s Rib Cage Shorts and they run about 2 sizes small so size up!
is it really the Best Catamaran Tour in Puerto Rico?
All in all this was one of my favorite days during the trip. If you plan on visiting Puerto Rico anytime soon I highly recommend SS Tobias Snorkel and Beach Tour for your Icacos Island Catamaran Tour.
