If you are looking for a quick way to makeover patio furniture you have come to the right place. First and foremost I have to give a shout out to my hubby for the amazing job he did on our patio furniture! He picked this set up about a year ago from a guy who was having an estate sale. The man gave him this entire set free of charge! I wanted to makeover this set last year but life got in the way. Honestly, it was such an eye sore that I didn’t even want to bring it to the new house.
I didn’t get a before photo because he actually started before i got a chance. Just to give you an idea, it was an ugly dark green color with rust in different spots. We threw the original cushions away because our dog destroyed them and they were also pretty ugly.
Even our American Bulldog Bam Bam loves hanging out on the patio now. Let’s hope he doesn’t try destroying this furniture. We also did a full size patio sofa and one other chair too. At first I thought the gray might blend too much with the siding of the house and I was unsure about the gray cushions too. Something about the gray on gray ….I just thought it wasn’t going to work.
In all honesty though it looks amazing. I highly suggest re-painting your old patio furniture every few years just to give it a new updated look. If you don’t have patio furniture check online for garage sales or on craigslist because you can probably get one for next to nothing. The cushions also come in universal sizes that fit pretty much any metal patio furniture set. We got our gray cushions in the new At Home store. BTW this store is amazing and addictive. If you have one in your area I highly suggest you check it out. Wayfair also has a huge selection o I may also add a couple of accent pillows to the sofa too and I will definitely be getting a large outdoor area rug as well.
In case you were wondering my husband used this Rustoleum Paint + Primer in the color “Winter Gray.” For the sofa and table + chairs and one other chair he did 2 coats on each I believe. It took about 5-6 cans or so, but no sanding or priming involved. Just make sure you wipe down your patio furniture before spraying. I can’t wait so spend many summer days and nights on this patio with friends and family!
